Google Business Profile for Nigerian Businesses: A Setup Checklist That Gets You Found
A complete Google Business Profile turns nearby searches into calls and WhatsApp messages. Use this checklist to set yours up properly the first time.

For many Nigerian small businesses, a Google Business Profile produces more enquiries than the website itself. When someone searches for a plumber in Surulere or a school in Gwarinpa, the map results appear before any website link. An incomplete profile hands that enquiry to a competitor who filled theirs in.
Start with identity. Use the exact registered business name, without keyword stuffing; adding words like “best” or “cheap” to the name field violates Google’s rules and can trigger suspension. Choose the most specific primary category available, then add secondary categories for genuine secondary services. A school is not just “School”; pick the level it actually operates.
Next, service area and contact details. Businesses that visit customers should set an honest service area rather than claiming a city centre address they do not have. Enter one phone number that a human actually answers during stated hours, and link WhatsApp if customers prefer it. Hours, including public holidays, should match reality, because showing up to a closed office destroys trust faster than no listing at all.
Then fill the sections most profiles leave empty. Write a description of two or three plain sentences covering what you do, who you serve, and where. Upload real photographs: the premises, the team at work, products, and proof of completed jobs. Add the services or products list with prices where possible, answer the questions feature with the questions customers genuinely ask, and publish posts when something changes. Every empty section is a missed chance to answer a buyer’s question.
Reviews deserve a system, not luck. Ask satisfied customers at the moment of delivery, send the review link directly, and reply to every review, including critical ones, in calm and specific language. Steady reviews over months matter more than a burst of ten in one week, and purchased reviews eventually get removed along with the credibility they pretended to buy.
Finally, connect the profile to everything else. The website field should point to a page that continues the story, and the profile works hardest when the linked site loads quickly on mobile and repeats the same name, phone number, and location. FASS Launch includes basic search metadata. Google Business Profile setup is separate unless the signed scope expressly includes it. Set aside one hour this week to audit your profile against this checklist. If you would rather hand it over entirely, send your business details through /contact.
